Andrew Gay practises exclusively as a trial lawyer specializing in complex litigation and tribunal work. He has appeared in the British Columbia courts and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has extensive experience in public authority liability cases and complex tort litigation, including class proceedings, as well as commercial and employment litigation. Andrew recently authored the chapter "Nuisance" in K. Horsman and G. Morley, eds., Government Liability: Law and Practice (Aurora: Canada Law Book, 2007). Andrew is an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia Law School where he teaches a course on government liability.

Andrew is a member of the Canadian Bar Association including the Civil Litigation and Class Action Subsections and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association (B.C.) Sections Committee. He has been a participant in the Inns of Court Program for young lawyers has acted as a moot court judge and has acted as a mentor to students at the University of British Columbia Law School. Andrew is a member of the Vancouver-based Advocates Club.

Has acted for plaintiffs in cases involving solicitor's negligence, medical malpractice, and actions against the police.
 
Represented governmental plaintiff in cases involving forest fires alleged to have been negligently set.
 
Defended governmental clients in case involving alleged negligence of social workers, and in cases involving highway design and maintenance.
 
Acted for a governmental defendant in a case involving a massive train derailment alleged to have been caused by the negligent drainage of water adjacent to a highway.
 
Retained to provide an opinion in a complex products liability matter in the pharmaceutical sector.

Liquor Licensing Disputes
Andrew is a leading lawyer in the area of liquor licensing law in
British Columbia. Andrew acts for numerous restaurants, bars and clubs
in disputes with the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch.
 
Andrew has represented numerous clients in relation to contravention hearings, Judicial Review applications, and on court applications to stay
decisions of the General Manager under the Liquor Control and Licensing
Act.
 
Public Authority Liability
Represents governmental defendants in a variety of tort actions including complex negligence and nuisance actions.

Has acted for clients in class actions involving vanishing premiums, historic abuse, and deceptive advertising.
 
Employment Law
Acts for both employers and employees in wrongful dismissal cases and cases involving alleged breaches of restrictive covenants.
