Overview
We have argued dozens of professional discipline cases, both on behalf of professional regulatory bodies and on behalf of professionals. These cases are vital to the participants, with careers and reputations often on the line and significant issues of public interest. We have advised on disciplinary investigations, argued for emergency interim orders, and prosecuted some of the most complex disciplinary cases in British Columbia.
Our cases have involved accountants, health professionals, lawyers, engineers and geoscientists, veterinarians, real estate professionals, and others. Our cases have involved dam failures, flawed building designs, sexual assault, misrepresentation of services, conduct in the personal lives of professionals and many other issues.
When appeals or applications for judicial review are taken from disciplinary decisions we represent our clients in court, with a keen understanding of administrative law and the approach likely to be taken by the court.
These cases require a strong grasp of both the legal framework and the professional setting. Standards of practice, procedural fairness, expert evidence, institutional obligations, reputational risk, and the public interest all matter. We help clients assess exposure, prepare the record, respond to allegations, and make sound decisions as the matter develops.
